Deshalb verhält sich der Heilige am Tagesende so, daß er nicht die Wichtigkeit seiner Bürde aus dem Auge verliert, auch wenn er in großem Ansehen steht und Tafel und Wohnung prächtig sind. Und wieviel mehr, wenn er zehntausend Wagen besässe und ihm in Person alle Dinge leicht wären. Nähme er sie leicht, dann verlöre er seine Wurzel. Würde er sich aufregen, dann verlöre er seine Autorität."

"As the heavy must be the foundation of the light, So quietness is lord and master of activity. Truly, “A man of consequence though he travels all day Will not let himself be separated from his baggage-wagon, However magnificent the view, he sits quiet and dispassionate”. How much less, then, must be the lord of ten thousand chariots Allow himself to be lighter than these he rules! If he is light, the foundation is lost; If he is active, the lord and master is lost."

"A nehéz: a könnyű alapja, a nyugalom: a mozgás ura. A bölcs, ha naphosszat vándorol, terhét nem hagyja. Bármily csodás tájat lát, őrzi nyugalmát. Az uralkodó könnyelműségre ne adja magát. Ha könnyelmű: elveszti alapját, ha kapkod: elveszti uralmát."

"Уважительный выкорчевывает надменность. Спокойный овладевает вспыльчивостью. Вот почему совершенный человек, целый день совершая долгий путь, не уединяется в обозной кибитке, хотя бы даже и был удостоен чести пристроиться на отдых, выделившись так. Что произойдет с властелином множества земель в том случае, если он смотрит свысока на всех людей? Смотрит свысока -- в таком случае утратит корневую основу, вспыльчивый -- в таком случае утратит владычество."
