Don't tolerate in yourself the seeds of any desire to assert yourself. For as you can advance in life, so you will slide back in yourself.
Do not strive for excellence. But that does not mean neglecting your abilities. You will advance in yourself if you make your abilities as full and coherent as possible; no matter how great your abilities are, the main thing is to make the best of them and by them.
Your abilities are the steeds that will carry you to the final house; but you can only enter the house if you keep your steeds outside. Every faculty has its measure; and the final gate is only accessible to that which is immeasurable: the soul itself.

Ne törekedj kiválóságra. Ez azonban nem jelenti, hogy képességeidet elhanyagold. Önmagadban akkor jutsz előbbre, ha képességeidet mennél teltebbé s összecsengőbbé teszed; mindegy, hogy képességeid mekkorák: fő, hogy a tőled telhető legjobbat formáld belőlük és általuk.

Képességeid a paripák, melyek a végső házig visznek; de a házba csak úgy tudsz belépni, ha fogatod kívül marad. Minden képességnek mérete van; s a végső kapun csak az fér be, ami mérhetetlen: a lélek maga.

Abilitățile tale sunt armăsarii care te vor purta spre casa finală; dar nu poți intra în casă decât dacă îți ții armăsarii afară. Fiecare facultate are măsura ei; iar poarta finală este accesibilă doar pentru ceea ce este incomensurabil: sufletul însuși.
