What nature has wasted in seeds, dust, buds, experiments, sunshine, rain, and wind, in building such a forest! And how purposeful and silent is this existence that wants nothing more than to be, to grow and survive for centuries, fully expressing itself, breathing, responding to the world - and at the same time not breaking against anyone or anything, giving home and life to billions of living beings. What a great and wise community this fifty-thousand-acre pine forest is. Like the forefathers, the pines watch over life. They answer to the earth and sky at once with their mighty trunks. Az erdőkben van valami megrendítő, különösen a fenyőerdőkben. Nemcsak sötét és következetes hallgatásuk rendít meg, mély árnyaik, templomi fenségük és áhítatos magatartásuk. Megrendítő az élet akarata, mellyel egy nagy erdő kifejezi a világerőket. Gondoljuk csak el, miféle erők és szándékok építették az ötvenméteres fenyők százezreit! Mit pazarolt el a természet magvakban, porzókban, bibékben, kísérletekben, napsütésben, esőben, széljárásban, míg egy ilyen erdő felépült! S milyen céltudatos és néma ez a létezés, mely semmi egyebet nem akar, csak lenni, csak felnőni és évszázadokon át megmaradni, teljesen kifejezve önmagát, lélegezve, felelve a világnak – s ugyanakkor nem tör senki és semmi ellen, otthont és életet ad élőlények milliárdjainak. Milyen nagy és bölcs közösség ez az ötvenezer holdas fenyőerdő. Mint az ősapák, úgy őrködnek az élet fölött a fenyők. Egyszerre felelnek hatalmas törzsükkel a földnek és az égnek. Amikor csak teheted, menj az erdőbe.

Pădurile, în special pădurile de pini, au ceva emoționant. Nu doar liniștea lor întunecată și consistentă mă emoționează, ci și umbrele lor adânci, măreția lor bisericească și atitudinea lor reverențioasă. Voința de viață cu care o mare pădure exprimă forțele lumii este atât de emoționantă. Gândiți-vă doar ce forțe și intenții au construit sute de mii de pini de cincizeci de metri! Cât a risipit natura în semințe, praf, muguri, experimente, soare, ploaie, vânt, pentru a construi o astfel de pădure! Și cât de hotărâtă și tăcută este această existență care nu vrea nimic altceva decât să fie, să crească și să supraviețuiască timp de secole, exprimându-se pe deplin, respirând, răspunzând lumii - și, în același timp, neîmpotrivindu-se la nimic sau nimănui, oferind casă și viață la miliarde de ființe vii. Ce comunitate mare și înțeleaptă este această pădure de pini de cinzeci de mii de acri. La fel ca strămoșii, pinii veghează asupra vieții. Ei răspund pământului și cerului deodată cu trunchiurile lor puternice. Ori de câte ori puteți, mergeți în pădure.
