Let not a day go by without you reading a few lines from Seneca, Tolstoy, Cervantes, Aristotle, the Scriptures, Rilke, or Marcus Aurelius. Listen to a few beats of music every day, and if you have no other choice, play a theme by Bach, Beethoven, Gluck, or Mozart on your music box. Not a day should go by that you haven't spent a few minutes looking at a painting or drawing by Brueghel or Dürer or Michelangelo in the mirror of a good print. It is so easy to get all this, and so easy to find half an hour for fine art! And so easy to fill your soul with the happy harmony of human perfection! You are rich, however miserable you may be. The fullness of the human spirit is yours. Live it, every day, as man is breathing.

Ha csak teheted, élj mindig úgy, hogy az emberi szellem kristályba fagyott remekműveinek egyikét mindennap megszemléld, s ha néhány pillanatra is! Ne múljon el egyetlen napod, hogy nem olvastál néhány sort Seneca, Tolsztoj, Cervantes, Arisztotelész, a Szentírás, Rilke vagy Marcus Aurelius könyveiből. Mindennap hallgass néhány ütem zenét, ha másképp nem lehet, szólaltasd meg a zenedobozon Bach, Beethoven, Gluck vagy Mozart valamely tételét. Ne múljon el nap, hogy nem nézegetted néhány percen át valamilyen jó nyomat tükrében Brueghel, vagy Dürer, vagy Michelangelo valamelyik festményét vagy rajzát. Mindezt oly könnyű megszerezni, s oly könnyű megtalálni a félórát, mely a remekművekhez szükséges! S oly könnyű megtölteni lelked az emberi tökéletesség boldog összhangjával! Gazdag vagy, akármilyen nyomorult is vagy. Az emberi szellem teljessége a tiéd is. Élj vele, mindennap, ahogy lélegzik az ember.

Dacă puteți, trăiți astfel încât să contemplați în fiecare zi, chiar și numai pentru câteva clipe, asupra uneia dintre capodoperele cristalizate ale spiritului uman! Să nu treacă nicio zi fără să citești câteva rânduri din Seneca, Tolstoi, Cervantes, Aristotel, Scriptură, Rilke sau Marcus Aurelius. Ascultați câteva măsuri de muzică în fiecare zi, iar dacă nu vă puteți abține, puneți la cutia muzicală o piesă de Bach, Beethoven, Gluck sau Mozart. Să nu treacă nicio zi în care să nu petreceți câteva minute privind în oglinda unei stampe bune o pictură sau un desen de Brueghel, Dürer sau Michelangelo. Este atât de ușor să obții toate acestea și atât de ușor să găsești jumătatea de oră pentru a savura o capodoperă! Și e atât de ușor să-ți umpli sufletul cu fericita armonie a perfecțiunii umane! Sunteți bogați, oricât de nefericiți ați fi. Plenitudinea spiritului uman este a voastră. Trăiește-o, în fiecare zi, așa cum respiră omul.
