"Abstaining from speech marks him who is obeying the spontaneity of his nature. A violent wind does not last for a whole morning; a sudden rain does not last for the whole day. To whom is it that these (two) things are owing? To Heaven and Earth. If Heaven and Earth cannot make such (spasmodic) actings last long, how much less can man! Therefore when one is making the Tao his business, those who are also pursuing it, agree with him in it, and those who are making the manifestation of its course their object agree with him in that; while even those who are failing in both these things agree with him where they fail. Hence, those with whom he agrees as to the Tao have the happiness of attaining to it; those with whom he agrees as to its manifestation have the happiness of attaining to it; and those with whom he agrees in their failure have also the happiness of attaining (to the Tao). (But) when there is not faith sufficient (on his part), a want of faith (in him) ensues (on the part of the others)."

"Málo mluviti je samo od sebe (přirozené). Vichřice netrvá celé ráno, příval deště netrvá celý den. Kdo jest ten, jenž to působí? Nebe a země. Ani nebe a země nemohou déle, tím méně je to u člověka. Proto: kdo sleduje záležitosti po Tau, stává se za jedno s Taem, ctnostný je za jedno se ctností a vinník za jedno s vinou. Kdo je za jedno s Taem, takého obdržeti těší se i Tao, (právě jako) těší se ctnost, obdžeti toho, kdo je za jedno se ctností, a vina těší se obdržeti toho, kdo je za jedno s vinou. Nestačí-li důvěra, dostavuje se zpronevěra."
"Wenig reden ist naturgemäß. Wirbelwind währt keinen Morgen, Platzregen währt keinen Tag. Wer macht diese ? Himmel und Erde. Himmel und Erde sogar können nicht dauern, wieviel weniger denn der Mensch! Darum: Wessen Tun mit Tao übereinstimmt, wird eins mit Tao. Der Tugendsame wird eins mit der Tugend, Der Verderbte wird eins mit der Verderbnis. Wer eins wird mit Tao, auch Tao freut es, ihn zu bekommen. Wer eins wird mit der Tugend, auch die Tugend freut es, ihn zu bekommen. Wer eins wird mit der Verderbnis, auch die Verderbnis freut es, ihn zu verderben. Vertraut man nicht genug, erhält man kein Vertrauen."

"Hablar poco es conforme con la naturaleza. Un viento furioso no sopla toda la mañana, una lluvia violenta no dura todo el día. ¿Dónde está el origen de esto? Si el cielo y la tierra no pueden desencadenarse por largo tiempo, ¿no ocurrirá igual, con mayor razón, en el hombre? El que en su conducta sigue al dao, se une al dao; el que sigue a la virtud, se une a la virtud; el que sigue al abandono, se une al abandono. Quienes se hacen uno con la virtud, obtendrán también el dao. A quien se hace uno con el abandono, el dao también lo abandonará."
"Préserve-toi par le silence. L'ouragan ne hurle pas toute une matinée. L'orage ne dure pas tout un jour. Qui produit l'ouragan et la pluie? Ce sont le ciel et la terre. Si ciel et terre ne produisent rien d'éternel, comment l'homme le pourrait-il? Celui qui suit la loi s'accorde au Tao. Sa volonté et ses principes sont ceux du Tao. Avec lui il agit et avec lui il s'abstient. Le Sage épris d'absolu y trouve la plénitude. En suivant la voie on trouve la voie. En se conformant à la vertu on devient la vertu. Mais si on pense au crime on recueille la honte du crime. C'est pourquoi l'action comme l'inaction traduisent l'invisible harmonie Ou la foi est totale, ou elle n'est pas."
"A kevés beszéd az, ami természetes (ce-zsan). Ugyanezért a dühöngő szél nem tart egész reggel, a zuhogó eső nem tart egész nap. S ki csinálja ezeket? Az ég és a föld. Ha pedig az ég és föld sem képes hosszan tartó dolgokra, hogyan csinálhatna ilyet az ember! Ezért kell minden dolgát a tao szerint végeznie. Aki a tao szerint él, azonosul a tao-val. Aki birtokolja az erényt (tö), azonosul az erénnyel. Aki az erénytelenségen fáradozik, azonosul az elvesztéssel. (De) aki azonosult a tao-val, az a tao-t már meg is szerezte: aki azonosult az erénnyel, az az erényt már meg is szerezte; aki pedig azonosult az elvesztéssel, az az elvesztettet már vissza is nyerte. Ha valakinek a bizalma (szin) nem elegendő, az mindig bizalmatlansággal találkozik."

Даже Небо и Земля не могут сделать что-нибудь долговечным, тем более человек. Поэтому он служит дао. Тот, кто [служит] дао, тот тождествен дао. Тот, кто [служит] дэ, тот тождественен дэ. Тот, кто теряет, тождествен потере. Тот, кто теряет дао, приобретает дао. Тот, кто тождествен дэ, приобретат дэ. Тот, кто тождествен потере, приобретает потерянное. Только сомнения порождают неверие."
"Sống tự nhiên, xẻn lời ít nói, Vì gió giông chẳng thổi sớm, trưa. Mưa rào chẳng suốt ngày mưa, Ai làm gió sớm mưa trưa thế này? (Trời đất). Trời đất còn thoảng bay chốc lát, Vẻ chi người, sống thác dường bao ! Đem vạn vật ướm vào Đạo cả, Đấng thánh nhân huyền hóa đạo Trời. Người nhân ôm đức chẳng rời, Người ham đắc thất, cả đời vẫn ham. Ôm lấy Trời, hân hoan Trời rước. Ôm đức ân, sẽ được đức ân. Miệt mài công cuộc gian trần, Gian trần vui đón, cho thuần hư vinh. Kẻ chẳng tin, người tin chẳng đủ, Không đủ tin hay cứ không tin. Đoạn 3 và 4 trên đây có thể dịch theo cách thứ hai như sau: Đem vạn vật ướm vào Đạo cả, Đấng thánh nhân huyền hóa Đạo Trời. Sá chi đắc thất trần ai, Vui vầy cùng Đạo thảnh thơi mặc tình. Sống huyền hóa, siêu linh thoải mái. Người tin, chăng, nào ngại gì đâu."
