Sometimes it is only much later that we understand what the miracle was, how it intervened in our lives, and what was supernatural and wonderful about this intervention. I cannot show or prove the essence of the miracle. But think, perhaps, how incomprehensible and wonderful is in reality all that you feel to be everyday and natural: how miraculous the very fact of existence is! To be born, to live, and one day to die! Does all this feel "natural" to you? Then you are blind and deaf. Reality itself is a miracle, incomprehensible, and supernatural with all its natural props and materials! Why should a miracle be more meaningless than this improbably complicated reality? The universal spirit is the miracle that manifests itself in everything. This is why I am a believer: because the spirit of the world is manifested in me, in my daily life, in my sad and fallible fate.</p>"
