A politician's career seems to take a sudden turn as soon as he is elected to office. One of the reasons for this turn of events is perhaps that he replaces his individual moral code system - regardless of his will - with a communal one. Besides, things look very different from the top, and the life of a single person seems very small. As long as the politician is only a candidate, he sees the unique suffering; once you reach the top, it all becomes a statistic.
