"Zdrženlivost je v řeči přirozená, neboť ani vítr neduje po celý den a ani liják celý den netrvá. A kdo je působí? Přece Nebe a Země! A jestli ani samotné nebe a sama země nemohou působit stále, jak potom člověk! Tak ti, kteří chtějí užívat Tao: tam kde najdou Cestu Tao, shodnou se s ní, tam kde působí Síla Te, shodnou se sní, tam kde obojí ztratí, shodnou se s jejich ztrátou! Shodnou-li se s Cestou, ta je ráda, že je má, shodnou-li se s působením Síly, ta je ráda, že je má, shodnou-li se s jejich ztrátou, ztráta je ráda, že je má! Neboť kde nebylo důvěry dost je nevěra!"

"Wer wenig redet, findet die rechte Einstellung zu jedem Geschehen. Er verzweifelt nicht, wenn Orkane toben; (denn er weiß, sie gehen schnell vorüber;) auch ein Platzregen währt nicht den ganzen Tag. Himmel und Erde wirken beides. Wenn diese schon keine Beständigkeit kennen, um wieviel weniger darf man vom Menschen Beständigkeit erwarten. (Daher kommt es immer auf die rechte Einstellung an; diese aber heißt: sich still in alles Geschehen einfügen.) Wer sich in seinem Tun vom Unergründlichen bestimmen läßt, wird eins mit ihm. Wer sich in seinem Tun von seinem innersten Wesen bestimmen läßt, wird eins mit sich selbst. Wer sich in seinem Tun von irgend etwas bestimmen läßt, wird eins mit diesem. Wer sich in das Unergründliche einfügt, dem wird in dieser Einfügung der Segen des Unergründlichen. Wer sich seinem innersten Wesen einfügt, dem wird in dieser Einfügung der Segen des Innersten. Wer sich in irgend etwas einfügt, dem wird in dieser Einfügung Segen oder Fluch, je nach der Wesenheit dieses Irgend-etwas. Jedem wird soviel Vertrauen, als er gibt."

Того, кто тождествен Дэ, Дэ с радостью принимает его. Того, кто тождествен утрате, утрата с радостью принимает его. "Недоверие питает неверие"."
