This is the last second, when worldly and human depth and height, brightness and darkness are still in contact, when the sleepers wake up from their heavy and tormenting dreams, the sick groan, because they feel that the hell of the night is over, and more transparent suffering follows; the system and lighting of the day reveals and dismantles everything that in the dark confusion of the night was a convulsive desire, a secret desire, a squeamish temper.

A pillanat volt ez, mikor az éjszaka elválik a nappaltól, az alvilág a felvilágtól. S talán más is kettéválik ilyen pillanatokban. Az utolsó másodperc ez, mikor a világi és emberi mélység és magasság, fényesség és sötétség még érintkeznek, mikor a szunnyadók felriadnak nehéz és gyötrő álmaikból, a betegek felnyögnek, mert érzik, hogy vége az éjszaka poklának, s következik az áttekinthetőbb szenvedés; a nappal rendszere és világítása feltárja és szétbontja mindazt, ami az éjszaka sötét zűrzavarában görcsös kívánság volt, titkos vágy, nyavalyatörős indulat.
