A szentek életének egyik legfőbb értelme, hogy a szentség egy napon elviselhetetlen erővel kezd sugározni lényükből, s ezért az emberek megfőzik vagy megsütik őket. Ez az erő, mely a szenteket arra kényszeríti, hogy elhagyják otthonukat, s ellenálljanak az embereknek, leküzdhetetlen. Nagyon ritkán esik meg, hogy egy szentet karosszékben ábrázolnak, amint kilencven évesen, a pátriárkák korában, ősz hajzattal, nyájasan üldögél dédunokái körében, és képes újságot olvas. A szent mindig harcol.
