But of yourself you cannot say when you began to be: of yourself you know that you have always existed, that if you had not been, nothing would have been. The same about death: people say you will die, but you know you cannot die. Your body began to be, it grows, it will grow old, it will die, but that which is not corporeal and lives in your body, the spirit of God, cannot die.

Dacă îi întrebi pe oameni îți vor spune în ce an te-ai născut și câți ani ai. Dar despre tine însuți nu poți spune când ai început să fii: despre tine știi că ai existat dintotdeauna, că, dacă tu n-ai fi fost, nimic n-ar fi fost. Același lucru și despre moarte: oamenii spun că vei muri, dar tu știi că nu poți muri. Trupul tău a început să fie, crește, va îmbătrâni, va muri, dar ceea ce nu este trupesc și trăiește în trupul tău, duhul lui Dumnezeu, nu poate muri.
