And nothing that is material is in the power of man. The only activity in which man does not encounter obstacles is the spiritual one. What I want, I do. If I don't succeed, I get angry with myself (I have more understanding with myself than with others), and the anger is less painful and especially not useless. There is only one way out, one activity that does not encounter obstacles - spiritual activity, love. Man is like an animal that struggles in a room where there is a door, and hits the door without seeing it, because the door opens inward.

Mânia vine din neputință, a spus Rousseau. Cât de adevărat e! Se mânie cel care vrea să facă ceva dincolo de puterile lui, întâmpină obstacole și atunci se mânie. Iar nimic din ce e material nu stă în puterea omului. Singura activitate în care omul nu întâmpină obstacole este cea spirituală. Ce vreau, aia fac. Dacă nu izbutesc, mă supăr pe mine (față de mine am mai multă înțelegere decât față de alții), iar supărarea e mai puțin dureroasă și mai ales nu-i inutilă. Există o singură ieșire, o singură activitate care nu întâmpină obstacole - activitatea spirituală, iubirea. Omul e asemeni unui animal care se zbate într-o încăpere în care e o ușa, și se izbește de ușa fără s-o vadă, fiindcă ușa se deschide spre interior.
