Az ember ugyanis rest, és mindig negyven esztendeig tévelyeg előbb a sivatagban, amíg megteszi a soron következő lépést fejlődésének útján. Fenyegetésekkel és ígéretekkel lehet csak kivezetni a pusztából, s közben képzelt veszedelmekkel kell riogatni és nemkülönben képzeletbeli jutalmakkal kecsegtetni; meg ne pihenjen félúton, s letérve az igaz útról az aranyborjút imádja leborulva.
