Envy...Many mortals on trial have admitted, in the hope of a lighter punishment, that they have been guilty of terrible deeds, but who has ever confessed to being envious? Each of us feels that envy hides something more shameful than the crime itself, however treacherous it may be. And not only do they condemn her, but good people can't even believe it when they hear that an intelligent person is accused of such a thing.

Invidia... Mulți muritori chemați în fața judecății au recunoscut, în speranța unei pedepse mai blânde, că s-au făcut vinovați de fapte îngrozitoare, dar cine a mărturisit vreodată că a fost invidios? Fiecare dintre noi simte că invidia ascunde ceva mai rușinos decât însăși crima, fie ea cât de perfidă. Și nu numai că o condamnă, dar oamenilor de bine nici nu le vine să creadă, când aud că un ins inteligent e învinuit de așa ceva.
