Sometimes this is his suffering, but also his greatness.

Omului îi place să se întoarcă la sursă; fluviul nu se întoarce la izvor. Aceasta pentru că omul este o inteligență, iar fluviul un element. Trecutul, prezentul, viitorul sunt unul și același lucru... Omul este Dumnezeu prin gândire. El vede, simte, trăiește în toate punctele existenței sale în același timp. Se contemplă el însuși, se înțelege, se posedă, reînvie și se judecă prin anii pe care i-a trăit. Într-un cuvânt, retrăiește atât cât îi place să retrăiască prin amintiri. Uneori aceasta este suferința, dar și măreția lui.
