Deosebirea dintre sensurile practice pe care le dăm lucrurile și sensul pe care numai poeții îl găsesc în ele, este că primele sunt sensuri fragmentare, abstracțiuni și utilizări ale obiectului, izolare și uz, în vreme ce sensul poetic nu este altceva decât acel răsunet al simțământului întreg și radical al poetului în fața lumii și a vieții... Sensul îl poartă în sine poetul.
