Nothing is more important than keeping our thoughts in check. You have to take care of the wild elephant of the mind, so that it doesn't get loose and wander off. This is the only way a person can keep calm and avoid exposing himself to the influence of external circumstances. Even if we live in secluded hermitages, if our thoughts are not constantly kept under strict supervision, they will wander far. Even in complete solitude, negative feelings and hordes of bad thoughts can attack us.
