"A példabeszéd azt tartja (...), hogy a jó szerencsének serénység az anyja, s csakugyan sok fontos ügyben azt is mutatta a tapasztalás, hogy aki serényen látott hozzá, még a kétes dolgokban is sikeresen végzett. Ez az igazság azonban semmiben sem valósul meg inkább, mint a hadviselésben, ahol a gyorsaság és fürgeség megelőzi az ellenség intézkedését, s hamarább megszerzi a győzelmet, semmint az ellenfél még csak gondolna is védelemre."
