"Fiecare artă, fiecare filozofie poate fi privită ca un remediu și ca un mijloc de stimulare a creșterii sau degenerescenței vieții: ele presupunând întotdeauna existența suferințelor și a suferinzilor. Dar există două feluri de suferinzi: o dată, cei care suferă de plenitudinea vieții, care vor o artă dionisiacă și totodată o privire și o perspectivă tragică asupra vieții, și apoi cei care suferă de o sărăcire a vieții și cer artei și filozofiei odihnă, liniște."
