Hogy az efféle benyomás milyen mulandó, elég arra emlékeztetni, hogy a valaha tett legnagyobb felfedezést, nevezetesen a gravitációs vonzástörvény felfedezését Leibniz még azzal támadta, hogy "aláaknázza a természetes vallást, és következésképpen a kinyilatkoztatott vallást is".
