Every age, every stage of life, yes, every day, has its moments of crisis, when everything you have tolerated: your work, your environment, your shortcomings, your desires, your nature - suddenly, without a transition, becomes unbearable. This crisis is as powerful as an explosion. You lean over your work and feel at once the imperfection of the task you have done, the intolerable hopelessness of the scale and demands of the tasks awaiting you. You bend over your life and, like a man drowning, you see all that you have been cowardly, lazy, dishonest or selfish to do, condensed in a single moment, and which now threatens to flood and drown.
This crisis, these tens of minutes, these life- and work-threatening moments, return with increasing intensity as time passes. It happens daily. At such times, know that crises are time-bound; watch your heart and the hands of your watch. As one who has a seizure, and knows that seizures have a rhythm and a time. Give up your work for a short time, relax the order of your days, and strive to be careless and humble. The ten minutes will pass. Work and life, as long as they are connected, will remain.

Minden életkornak, minden életszakasznak, igen, minden napnak vannak válságos tízpercei, mikor mindaz, amit addig tűrhetően elviseltél: munkád, környezeted, hiányérzeteid, vágyaid, természeted – egyszerre, átmenet nélkül elviselhetetlennek tetszik. Ez a válság erős, mint egy robbanás. Munkád fölé hajolsz, s egyszerre érzed az eddig elvégzett feladat tökéletlenségét, a reád várakozó feladatok méreteinek és igényeinek tűrhetetlen reménytelenségét. Életed fölé hajolsz, s mint a vízbe fúló, látod mindazt, összesűrítve, egyetlen pillanat örvényében, amihez gyáva, lusta, hazug vagy önző voltál, s ami most áradással és fulladással fenyeget.
Ez a válság, ezek a tízpercek, ezek az élet- és munkaveszélyes pillanatok a múló idővel mind hevesebben térnek vissza. Megesik, hogy naponta. Ilyenkor tudjad, a válságok időhöz kötözöttek; figyeld szíved és órád mutatóját. Mint akit roham kínoz, s tudja: a rohamoknak ütemük és kimért idejük van. Hagyj föl rövid időre munkáddal, lazíts napjaid rendjén, iparkodj hanyag és alázatos lenni. A tízperc elmúlik. A munka és az élet, amíg közük van egymáshoz, megmaradnak.

Fiecare vârstă, fiecare etapă a vieții, da, fiecare zi, are momentele ei de criză, când tot ceea ce ai tolerat: munca ta, mediul tău, defectele tale, dorințele tale, natura ta - brusc, fără o tranziție, devine insuportabil. Această criză este la fel de puternică ca o explozie. Te apleci asupra muncii tale și simți deodată imperfecțiunea sarcinii pe care ai îndeplinit-o, disperarea intolerabilă a dimensiunii și exigențelor sarcinilor care te așteaptă. Te apleci asupra vieții tale și, asemenea unui om care se îneacă, vezi tot ceea ce ai fost laș, leneș, necinstit sau egoist să faci, condensat într-o singură clipă, și care acum amenință să inunde și să înece.
