In life-threatening situations, we must remember that our time is definitely up, even if the touch of the hand of fate is ten years before or after; because the content of life is the great tension, the moments of creation, not the calendar period of existence. You lived when you expressed with all your strength the divine command which was the content of your life, you fulfilled, with fervor and destiny, your duty. This moment was the time of life. Everything else was only preparation and waiting. And nature is economical: she does not let go prematurely those whom she needs for her work; and when they have done what they were engaged to do in the great work of the world, she cares for them no more. The danger of life, then, is plain, have you lived well, have you lived bravely and dutifully? The rest is private, which in the depths of your heart even you do not really care about.

Életveszélyes helyzetekben arra kell gondolnunk, hogy időnk mindenképpen lejárt, akkor is, ha tíz esztendővel elébb vagy később ér el a végzet keze; mert az élet tartalmát a nagy feszültség, az alkotás pillanatai jelentik, nem pedig a létezés kalendáriumi időszaka. Éltél, amikor minden erőddel kifejezted azt az isteni parancsot, mely életed tartalma volt, teljesítetted, lelkesen és végzetesen, kötelességed. Ez a pillanat volt az élet ideje. Minden más csak előkészülés, várakozás volt. S a természet gazdaságos: azokat, akikre művéhez szüksége van, nem engedi el idő előtt; s ha megtették azt, amire a világ nagy művében szerződtették őket, nem törődik többé velük. În situațiile care ne pun viața în pericol, trebuie să ne amintim că timpul nostru a expirat definitiv, chiar dacă suntem atinși de mâna destinului cu zece ani înainte sau după; pentru că conținutul vieții este marea tensiune, momentele creației, nu perioada calendaristică a existenței. Ai trăit atunci când ți-ai exprimat cu toată puterea porunca divină care era conținutul vieții tale, ți-ai îndeplinit, cu fervoare și destin, datoria. Acest moment a fost timpul vieții. Orice altceva era doar pregătire, așteptare. Iar natura este economă: ea nu-i lasă să plece prematur pe cei de care are nevoie pentru lucrarea ei; iar când aceștia au făcut ceea ce s-au angajat să facă în marea lucrare a lumii, ea nu se mai îngrijește de ei. Pericolul vieții, atunci, este clar: ai trăit bine, ai trăit cu curaj și devotament? Restul este privat, de care, în adâncul inimii tale, nici măcar ție nu-ți pasă cu adevărat.
